Turning your Passion into your Future!

This is part of a sponsored collaboration with Prudential and DiMe Media. However, all opinions expressed are my own.

I was so excited to hear that Hispanicize was coming to Texas this year, I did attend the one in Miami a few years ago and had a blast. So when I heard Hispanicize was coming  here I was so happy and couldn’t wait to attend. Thankfully for Prudential they sponsored a few influencer’s to attend and i’m  grateful I was one of them. The moment I entered the event I saw everyone walking around already networking . You can really see Prudentials presence at the event once you walked in.I learned so much at the Hispanicize event, about being an entrepreneur and going for your dreams no matter what. But also planning for them any way you can and saving up for whats important. I learned to take my passion and run with it.

The whole day was so inspiring and got me off my booty to work that much harder for what I want in life and always be prepared. After partaking in the wonderful networking breakfast in the morning, I headed to the Prudential lounge to check it out.

First thing I saw was the dream board they had up, where you can post your dreams and passions.  It took me a minute to really think about what I wanted for me and to stick it on the board. Seeing everyone’s dreams on there really put some things in perspective for me and pushed me to pursue my passion even more. Which is the help people save money on everything in life. Show them how they can budget everything and save more by planning everything out and saving.

First and foremost I want to get my finances in order so I can achieve some of my dreams and practice what I preach to others about saving money. I’m not going to lie it’s been a while since I checked my credit score or any past debits I may have incurred when I was younger. I do not keep track of my finances like I should.

What I learned in the panel that Prudential had with the Hispanicize team, was that you need to budget for your family then your business. Say no, I know it’s so hard in this day in age of everything being at our fingertips like instagram or facebook with links to buy things with a touch of a button. But saying no will help you get on the right track and save you some needed moolah!  This photo is a group of entrepreneurs who inspired me at the event , Candy from Candypolooza,  Dorinda Walker and Mario yearwood from Prudenital and Manny Ruiz Founder of Hispanicize.

I’ve had to learn that the hard way and say no to using my credit card as much and use it only for emergencies. Spend only one what you need not for what you want right now. The panel was full of entrepreneurs like Cristy Clavijo-Kish, Elayna Fernandez, Eddie Garcia and Mario Yearwood who spoke about the importance of saving and paying your debt off completely. If you want to learn how to look into your finances and who can help you check out this awesome link that helped me.

Here is a video of the panel and some of the valuable things that I learned.

This is some of the things that stood out at me at the panel.
1: To be successful you have to think you are already there.
2: Envision yourself where you want to be in life.
3: Stay the course you are in, alot of people are not going to like you.
4: Recognize your potential
5: Budget for your business and your personal life
6: Be passionate about what you do!!
This one was a biggie for me because I find myself losing all passion for what I do at times. I put my dreams on hold and beat myself over fear of failure.
My takeaway from this whole event was to go for your dreams, budget it into your lifestyle and make a plan where in a couple years you can be doing what you are truly passionate about.

Observing Dia De Los Muertos: Churro Recipe

“This post is sponsored by General Mills all opinions are my own” #DiaDeMuertos #BigG

diade

I am big on traditions especially ones that involve my Hispanic heritage, my family just finished observing Hispanic heritage month in October and now it’s time to observe “Dia De Los Muertos” Literally meaning “Day of the Dead” Many people observe this holiday in many different ways that is special to them. This tradition has been around for centuries now and hasn’t changed much.

A good majority of people gather with friends and family to remember loved ones and friends who have passed. The way some people choose to honor their loved ones is by building an altar that represent earth, water, fire and wind.

Filling it with sugar skulls, marigolds, sweet treats like Churro’s and atole drinks. The table is filled with foods/drinks that the loved ones might have loved.

When I was kid I remember having  so many traditions since my family comes from so many different backgrounds. It was so much fun growing up with traditions like these. I try to observe these holidays with my younger family members so they can keep it going when they have their own family some day. img_4179

I wanted to create a recipe to observe this beautiful holiday that is celebrated by so many people. I decided to make a churro recipe and headed to Walmart to find the ingredients I needed.

Artist Fernando Ferreiro’s exhibition in May 2016

When I heard that Artist Fernando Ferreiro would be presenting his work in Cordova, Spain in May 2016 I just had to blog about it. Ferreiro told me that the director of the exhibition hall of the hotel contacted him through Facebook and offered him the opportunity to exhibit there.

fer

The conditions seemed good and they closed the deal. He was given complete freedom to choose the art so he decided to take this opportunity and show his pictures of curvy women and give a greater voice to this community.

ferr

The talented artist wants to make several new drawings during this time focusing more on the body and not just the face of the model, such as “Ana and the Sea ” and “The girl with the wet shirt” which left me speechless when I saw it, the detail is amazing.

fere

His new portraits will include models María Jiménez Pacífico, Denise Bidot, Michelle Rudan and Linda Caffa. I was so curious how he chose his models so I asked him and his answer did not disappoint me…he told me “ they represent the kind of woman I want to capture in my drawings, who are curvy, have natural beauty, charisma, and confidence” of all of his paintings he chose to honor the Curvy Woman and that will surely not be forgotten, by a community that is trying so hard to be noticed and rightfully so.

fert

If you have a chance and are in that area go to the exhibition and support an artist that believes that a curvy woman can be beautiful too!

Marta Rivera is a blogger from Puerto Rico, she is an English professor and a Plus Size advocate on the Island, an Island that is mainly for thin models, but she is trying her best to change that. Marta will be blogging for Curvy Girl on a Budget letting us know everything that is happening in the Plus Size community from fashion to events in Puerto Rico.

Help End Childhood Hunger in the US #HungerIsUS

I love sharing amazing campaigns with you guys and when I heard about the #HungerIsUS campaign I jumped at the chance to share with you guys. Something like this campaign is near to my heart because when I was younger I was thankful for programs like this that helped my family get through a tough time. If you are a Randalls/Safeway shopper they have an amazing program that will give you the chance to help feed the hungry. It runs from September 1st till September 30th, 2015 it helps aid in the relief of childhood hunger in America. Programs like this help raise awareness, you can volunteer hours, the money from this will help improve health outcomes for hungry children and their families.

If you are an existing Randalls/Safeway shopper there are 2 ways you can help.

Donating at the register: Shoppers will be asked by the cashiers while checking out if they would like to donate to the “Hunger Is Fundraiser. This is offered at some Randalls/Safeway stores, make sure to check online where it’s available. At my store this wasn’t an option but that was okay because I opted for the second option. Safeway Stores: Key Pin Pad Request ,Randalls Stores: Donation Tabs at Register!

Purchasing participating products: There are quite a few brands that are participating in this national campaign, alot of them are my all time favorite products. Isn’t it amazing how you can buy your favorite product and help others at the same time. I decided to pick up a few of the items I enjoyed. Like Marie Calender’s meals and coke products. Other brands apart of this is Kellogg’s Campbell’s , Con AgraMarie Calender’sHealthy ChoiceBertolli’s | PF Changs brands Unilever.

In America nearly 17 millions kids are at risk of hunger each day that goes by, that is such a staggering number. This can be in your very neighborhood or even one of your friends, this is why I am so happy Safeway stores are banding together to help end hunger in the US. We can all get together and help donate or even just spreading the word of this campaign can get us closer to ending childhood hunger in America.

For my information about the #hungerIsUs campaign check out Randalls website here.

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Albertsons Safeway . The opinions and text are all mine. Comments submitted may be displayed on other websites owned by the sponsoring brand.
