I am big on traditions especially ones that involve my Hispanic heritage, my family just finished observing Hispanic heritage month in October and now it’s time to observe “Dia De Los Muertos” Literally meaning “Day of the Dead” Many people observe this holiday in many different ways that is special to them. This tradition has been around for centuries now and hasn’t changed much.

A good majority of people gather with friends and family to remember loved ones and friends who have passed. The way some people choose to honor their loved ones is by building an altar that represent earth, water, fire and wind.

Filling it with sugar skulls, marigolds, sweet treats like Churro’s and atole drinks. The table is filled with foods/drinks that the loved ones might have loved.

When I was kid I remember having  so many traditions since my family comes from so many different backgrounds. It was so much fun growing up with traditions like these. I try to observe these holidays with my younger family members so they can keep it going when they have their own family some day. img_4179

I wanted to create a recipe to observe this beautiful holiday that is celebrated by so many people. I decided to make a churro recipe and headed to Walmart to find the ingredients I needed.

Do you celebrate Dia de los Muertos? If so what traditions do you have with your family?  What recipes do you create with your family?

 img_4165

Chocolate Horchata with a twist!

For as long as I can remember my mother has taught my brother and I how to cook. We were taught easy dishes to more complicated ones, which as a kid just being in the kitchen messing around with food was so much fun. Something that I loved is when we would create new dishes or even enhance ones that are out there. One of the dishes we recreated was horchata, which is a traditional drink in many cultures especially in Latin america or Spain.

Cocoa

Making horchata is a bit difficult and you need tons of ingredients, so we wanted to create something that would be fun and easy to make with your family. Anyone that knows me, knows I’m obsessed with chocolate so I thought it would be pretty neat to include Cocoa Puffs in a horchata. I know your like what?! But trust me after I gave this to my brother ‘who is the resident chef in our home” he was elated with the recipe. You can find Coco Puffs easily at walmart for a great price. Horchata is already good all by iteself, wait till you try this version of  it. It’s such a simple and easy recipe that you will be making it all the time with your family. Not only is it easy to make it literally takes no time at all. It’s something you can make for years to come.

Dinner on a Budget:Pico De Gallo Taco Crunch!

Disclosure: This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Hamburger Helper® . The opinions and text are all mine.

Hamburgerhelper..l

Earlier this week I shared a post introducing you to national Hamburger month and I shared my shopping experience as well. Check out the post here. Besides blogging I work a 9 to whenever haha so sometimes it’s hard to cook dinner and I’m so tired from work that I just want to pop something in the microwave. But thankfully Hamburger Helper® has tons of meals that I could choose from and they are all so affordable. I went to Walmart and grabbed a few boxes and thought of a way to spice it up.  Having dinner with my family reminds me of having Sunday brunch with my abuelita, it really brought out family together. It was a time for all of us to talk about what happened the previous day.  I wanted to create a recipe that reminded me of my childhood family meals.

Pic De Gallo recipe:

Half a onion

Small Tomato

Small bunch of Cilantro

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/8 teaspoon salt

1/8 teaspoon pepper

Taco Crunch:

2 boxes of Hamburger Helper Taco Crunch

Beef or Chicken

First things first you start cooking the meat of your choice. I used ground turkey for this recipe!

hammbulo

Then add all the ingredients and mix up in pan, let simmer for 20 minutes.

After you simmer the ingredients it should look like this.

Now get a few slices of Pepper jack and slice it.

hamcheese

Set the pepper jack aside while you mix cheese sauce, put the taco pieces over the Hamburger Helper® and pour the mix cheese on top. Top with the pepper jack.

hamburger cheese

Stick the pan in the oven for 10 minutes at 300 degrees, then start cutting up the onions, tomatoes and cilantro.

hamburger cheesee

Mix it all up in a bowl after cutting, add garlic powder, salt and pepper.

By this time the dish in the oven should have gotten all cheesy! Pull the dish out and let it cool for ten minutes.

ham

After it has cooled, make sure to plate it and tops with Pico de gallo mixture.

There you have it! A super simple recipe featuring Hamburger Helper® Taco crunch. Which Hamburger Helper® meal is your favorite and what would you pair it with?

Celebrate National Hamburger Month by saving money!

Disclosure: This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Hamburger Helper® . The opinions and text are all mine.

Hamburgerhelper...

I am so happy it’s summer already, that means cookout’s with the family and hamburgers on the grill. I have a big family so at times it can be 10 of us on vacation together and it can be so difficult to pick out what we all want to eat. So I always try to find something quick and easy that won’t break the bank and taste amazing. Since it’s National hamburger month I decided to head to Walmart and grab a few things to make a meal that my family will enjoy.

#hamburger .lolol

Because I wanted to make a quick meal to save time I headed down the boxed foods aisle at walmart. I spotted the Hamburger Helper® section and I already knew I had to get a few boxes.  I grabbed  the crunchy taco Hamburger Helper® product to help me create a quick and easy meal that was also tasty! It’s goes for $2-3 dollars a box which is amazing because if you bought everything separately it would be so expensive. I love saving money and it’s very important to my family because we have a big family to feed.

#hamburgerhelper ..

All you need is a 1LB of ground beef or turkey which ever you perfect and any ingredients you want to use to spice up your dish! I grabbed an extra few items and created a super yummy recipe that I will be sharing with you in a few days! It features onions, tomatos and cilantro!

Right now its National Hamburger month so I thought it was fitting to share this coupon with you guys. Ibotta has a Hamburger Helper® coupon offer that you can use to save money. It helps you save an addtional 50 cents when you buy your Hamburger Helper® at any Walmart. I love that this helps you save money and so much time so you can spend that extra time with your family. Check out my website in a few days, I will share an amazing Pica de gallo Crunchy taco recipe that made my family want some more.
